Micro-credential: 18 ECTS (3x6 ECTS courses)
Entrepreneurship and innovation present themselves as a way for an individual to become a creative participant in society by producing new products or services. These micro-credential courses are designed for anyone who wants to understand how to take the first steps towards transforming their ideas into reality, gaining insights into the startup ecosystem in Iceland, and acquiring a critical understanding of how innovation and entrepreneurship can shape our society.
Through a mix of theory, practical exercises, and real-world case studies, students will develop key entrepreneurial skills, understand the business landscape, and explore the challenges and opportunities of launching and sustaining a startup.
The micro-credential program is developed in collaboration with the Breiðholt Service Center with support from the university collaboration under the Ministry of Higher Education.
Number of ECTS credits and workload
This micro-credential is taught in English and consists of 18 ECTS credits divided by three remote courses, each 6 ECTS. Entrepreneurship in Iceland I & II are taught one after the other during the autumn semester. Simultaneously, Design Thinking Applied is taught over an extended period throughout the semester.

Enrollment criteria
A matriculation exam (stúdentspróf in Icelandic), university preparatory course or similar is required.
Competences and learning outcomes
By completing this study path, students will have acquired the necessary competencies to become active participants in Iceland’s startup ecosystem. This includes understanding the role entrepreneurship plays in shaping our society but also acquiring the necessary skills to become part of that change. This includes knowing how to validate and prototype their ideas, innovate using the Design Thinking strategy, and take the first step toward developing, scaling, and maintaining a business
Students will become familiar with key concepts and ideas around entrepreneurship, but will also acquire practical skills applicable to going down the path of developing their own business in Iceland. This includes creating business plans, securing funding, pitching ideas, and having an overview of the available support structures for entrepreneurs in the country.
Evaluation
The student’s work in the courses will be evaluated with a mix of project-based learning and more traditional assignments.
Price: 225.000 ISK.
Most unions in Iceland contribute to paying the course fees for their members.

At the end of the course
A student who completes this study path will receive a certificate of completion outlining the number of ECTS credits. The student will also receive an overview of the programme, including information on the structure of the micro-credential.
The learning pathway does not result in a degree. A student who completes individual courses for ECTS credits will receive a transcript detailing the completed courses.
