Department of Social Science
The Department of Social Sciences was formed through the merger of two academic departments on August 1st, 2017. The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees that aim to enhance students’ practical and theoretical skills, prepare them for various sectors of the international job market, and provide them with essential skills for participating in public debates on politics, law, and economics. Furthermore, its undergraduate degrees provide excellent preparation for further postgraduate studies.
The Bifröst learning approach is very hands-on, in which students practice their skills through project-based learning, particularly through the yearly term projects in the undergraduate programme. In these projects, students collaborate in groups on a real-world project (practical and/or research-based) (see further information about Bifröst University’s Teaching Policy here).
The degrees are mainly taught in Icelandic. The academic year starts at the end of August. The following academic programsmes are offered at the Department of Social Sciences:
