Services
The library services are offered free of charge to students and staff of Bifröst University as well as other inhabitants of the university village. This is part of our commitment to providing an excellent learning experience at Bifröst University.
New users
Students visiting the library for the first time can request a library card and password at the circulation desk. This password enables you to log in to Leitir, Iceland’s national library catalogue, where you can see your current loans, renew overdue items and place Interlibrary loan requests. You can also save your searches for reserch material in your own e-shelf at My pages.
Loans and renewals
The loan period for books are normally 30 days. Materials can be renewed once from My pages, provided that they have not been requested by other users. To renew a loan again, come in person to the library circulation desk or send an email to bokasafn@bifrost.is. Books that are currently taught are placed at a course reading shelf in the library, they have a shorter loan period (1 week) or can only be borrowed over night. There are excellend reading areas in the library where you can sit and read your course books.
Book return
Books can be returned at the library circulation desk during opening hours. There is also a book return bin by the front door, right next to the mailbox, marked “Bókaskilakassi”.
Interlibrary loans and Document delivery (ILL/DD)
You can place an ILL/DD request directly into the library system if you are signed in. You can also send a request to the library in an email (bokasafn@bifrost.is) if you prefer.
It is important to provide full bibliographic details should you send an email request. Such as: Title, Author, Publication Year, ISBN or ISSN number, Article title and Article auhtor as well as page numbers should you need an article or a book chapter.
Please note that
- Material from libraries outside of Iceland can take a couple of weeks to arrive, although the usual turnaround time is 3-7 days
- Material lent from other libraries must be returned on time. Should you need a renwal you must request it before the due date arrives
